From Fluoride to EMS, what is in store for the Pinellas County Commission for 2012?

Now that the County Commission has withdrawn fluoride from the drinking water for all Pinellas County residents, should we expect more communities like Pinellas Park to implement their own Fluoride program?  20 communities within the county were affected by that decision.  Tigers may want to know what degree of influence LaSala has on commissioners as they undertake such half-baked issues as repealing fluoridated water. 

Budget shortfalls caused the County to set its sights on one of Florida's best EMS networks with response times well below that of similar sized counties.  Are residents prepared to pay substantially higher taxes and receive a slower response time for fire and ambulance service?  When looking at budget cuts, do the taxpayers really want their health and safety to be on the chopping block?

Since Governor Scott turned down federal funding for high speed rail, will the county, MPO and PSTA offer a light rail option in 2012 or 2013?  Will LaSala reach across the bay to broker a regional transportation system?

Bob LaSala relies on a 35 year career history in city management to guide his strategic planning efforts in Pinellas.  His career began in New York and New Jersey with extended stints in Pinellas and California before returning to the area in October of 2008.  Though his recent job review shows a general satisfaction with his execution of responsibilities, will he be able to navigate some critical issues on the horizon?
